West Sumatra Provincial Government Plans to Increase Grouper Fish Exports

The Provincial Government of West Sumatra (Sumbar) plans to enhance grouper fish exports by providing training and seed development for local farmers. Governor Mahyeldi stated on Saturday, August 24, 2024, that West Sumatra has conducted two grouper fish export shipments to Hong Kong in 2024. On Thursday, August 22, 2024, West Sumatra exported 11 tons of grouper fish valued at IDR 2 billion. Mahyeldi believes that the significant potential in grouper fish exports warrants further development of this sector, especially since these exports are part of the national government's "Merdeka Ekspor" program.

Mahyeldi revealed that the government, in collaboration with exporters, aims to achieve a minimum export target of 15 tons of grouper fish in the future. To reach this export goal, the government will provide training and seed development support to farmers. Additionally, collaboration between districts and cities within the province will be maximized to improve the fishermen's exchange rate in West Sumatra. Currently, the farmer's exchange rate in the region is above the national average, including in the agriculture, fisheries, and forestry sectors.
