The East Java Provincial Government (Pemprov Jatim) is exploring trade and investment partnerships with Peru, aligning with Peru's upcoming role as the host of the World Trade Conference in November, which Indonesia's President-elect Prabowo Subianto is expected to attend. This potential collaboration was discussed during a recent official visit by the Peruvian Ambassador to Indonesia, Luis Tsuboyama, to Surabaya. During the visit, Acting Governor of East Java, Adhy Karyono, expressed gratitude for Peru's invitation to send a trade delegation from East Java. Ambassador Tsuboyama encouraged East Java's participation in the trade conference and discussed opportunities for collaboration in sectors such as trade, economy, education, tourism, and industrial investment. The Ambassador also committed to bringing Peruvian entrepreneurs and investors to East Java in 2025, with plans to organize Business-to-Business (B-to-B) meetings involving local business associations such as Kadin, Hipmi, and Apindo.
Furthermore, discussions included successful social protection and poverty reduction programs implemented in Brazil, Mexico, and Peru. The trade balance between East Java and Peru reached USD 8.16 million as of March 2024, with East Java's exports totaling USD 6,073.72 million in 2023. East Java's economy recorded impressive growth in the second quarter of 2024, with a quarter-on-quarter increase of 2.87% and a year-on-year growth of 4.98%, the highest in Java, contributing 14.43% to Indonesia's GDP and 25.30% to Java's GDP. To attract investors, East Java offers ready-to-invest projects through platforms like Point Jatim and Jatim Online Single Submission (JOSS). Ambassador Tsuboyama's visit aimed to strengthen bilateral partnerships, with plans for a Latin America-focused event in Lima, Peru, in September, and a potential return to East Java to host a business forum in Indonesia.
