Indonesia's Minister of State-Owned Enterprises (BUMN), Erick Thohir, stated that Indonesia's creative industry has the potential to become the largest in Southeast Asia. However, realizing this potential requires adaptation to change and the optimization of Indonesia's vast resources to remain competitive. In a statement shared on Instagram on Sunday, 25 August, Erick emphasized the dynamic nature of the creative industry, noting that it differs from traditional businesses. He highlighted the need for continuous product improvement and adaptation to global changes, which are essential for success in this sector. "The creative industry in Indonesia will be the largest in Southeast Asia. The key is to adapt to changes and maximize Indonesia's potential to stay competitive," Erick remarked.
He acknowledged that the creative industry is relatively new to Indonesia but pointed out the significant opportunities due to the country's demographic advantages. Erick noted that Indonesia's economy is expected to grow by 5% annually over the next 20 years. He also emphasized that Indonesia is on track to become the largest digital economy in Southeast Asia, driven by a young population and a rich cultural heritage. Erick further stressed the importance of improving the quality, management, and implementation of creative industry projects to fully harness Indonesia's potential. This growth in the creative sector is seen as a critical driver for Indonesia's future economic success.
