The Indonesian Electrical Equipment Manufacturers Association (APPI) is targeting a 10%-15% growth in the electrical equipment industry by the end of 2024, compared to the pre-COVID-19 levels in 2019. APPI Chairman Yohanes Purnawan Widjaja expressed optimism, stating, "We hope to achieve a minimum growth of 10%-15%." Currently, 85% of the electrical equipment produced is consumed domestically, while the remaining 10%-15% is allocated for export. Key export destinations include the Middle East, particularly Jordan and Saudi Arabia, as well as the United States, Malaysia, and Timor-Leste. Domestically, the primary consumer of electrical equipment remains the state-owned electricity company, Perusahaan Listrik Negara (PLN). "PLN is the largest consumer, absorbing nearly 60% of the products from our members," Yohanes noted.
With the increasing adoption of electric vehicles (EVs) in Indonesia, APPI members have also started supplying battery chargers for Public Electric Vehicle Charging Stations (SPKLU) to PLN. "Our members are selling chargers through PLN, as PLN is responsible for building SPKLU. The products meet PLN's standards and international certifications," Yohanes added. Currently, there are four APPI members producing EV chargers, ensuring compliance with both PLN and international standards. This expected growth reflects the industry's robust domestic and international demand, highlighting Indonesia's evolving role in the global electrical equipment market.
