The Fisheries Office of Jayapura, Papua, reports that the city's annual tuna production has reached 45 tons, with continued growth due to the region's significant potential. Matheys Sibi, Head of the Fisheries Office in Jayapura, stated on Monday that the demand for tuna and skipjack from Jayapura in international markets is high, with regular exports to the United States and Japan by several companies. "This presents a tremendous opportunity for local fishermen to increase their catch," Sibi emphasized. To fully capitalize on this potential, he highlighted the need for investors to inject capital, enabling the efficient management and expansion of export activities. "There must be regulations that create opportunities for investors to enter and invest in Jayapura," he added.
The local government is actively working to provide the necessary infrastructure and facilities to support fishing groups, aiming to boost their catch volumes. Sibi stressed the importance of technical assistance to ensure that these fishing enterprises operate efficiently, both in management and financial aspects. He further noted that regular tuna export activities, coupled with investor involvement, could significantly impact the region's local revenue (Pendapatan Asli Daerah or PAD). "The abundant resources, particularly in the marine and fisheries sectors, offer a promising opportunity for tuna distributors to invest in Jayapura," Sibi concluded.
