President Jokowi States that Investments for the Development of IKN Amount to IDR 56.2 Trillion

President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) announced that the investment in the construction of Indonesia’s new capital, Ibu Kota Nusantara (IKN), has reached IDR 56.2 trillion. This investment, originating from 55 projects that have already commenced groundbreaking, is outside of the state budget (APBN). The projects span six education sectors, three health sectors, and ten logistics sectors. Additionally, there are eight hotels, two energy and transportation sectors, and 14 banking sectors involved.

During the first Plenary Cabinet Session at Istana Garuda IKN on Monday, August 12, 2024, President Jokowi expressed his gratitude to Allah SWT for this extraordinary opportunity, describing IKN as a canvas for the future. He emphasized that not all countries have the capability to build their capital from scratch, noting that Nusantara is being constructed with the concept of a forest city filled with greenery. The new capital is also envisioned as a smart city, supported by technology, and a liveable city with a high quality of life. The President highlighted the healthy environment of IKN, referring to its excellent air quality index, and stressed the importance of a mindset shift in moving to IKN. He pointed out that mobility within IKN will be powered by electric vehicles and green energy, and that buildings in the new capital will follow green building standards and be accessible. President Jokowi underscored that IKN is set to become a hub for the green and digital economy, with these sectors accompanying the government’s operations.
