The Ministry of Trade Records 70.8% of Garlic Import Permits Issued

The Indonesian Ministry of Trade (Kemendag) reported that the issuance of Import Permits (PI) for garlic has reached 70.8% of the allocated amount, with 456,622 tons of garlic import permits issued out of a total import requirement of 645,025 tons. Director of Essential Goods at Kemendag, Bambang Wisnubroto, confirmed this during a statement on Tuesday, August 13, 2024. He highlighted that this issuance aligns with the import needs established during the Coordinating Meeting on December 13, 2023.

Bambang further noted that the actual import realization has reached 281,582 tons of garlic, marking a 5.76% increase from the previous week. He also observed a downward trend in garlic prices, with the national average retail price for Grade A Kating garlic decreasing by 1.41% to IDR 42,000 per kilogram. Meanwhile, Grade B Honan garlic saw a price drop of 0.71% to IDR 41,800 per kilogram. In Kramat Jati Central Market, the price of Grade A Kating garlic fell by 3.66% to IDR 36,900 per kilogram, while the price for Grade B Honan garlic remained stable at IDR 32,800 per kilogram. Bambang emphasized that the Ministry will continue to encourage importers to expedite their import realizations to ensure market stability.
