The Indonesian government, through the Ministry of Industry (Kemenperin), is implementing strategic measures to expand the market for non-traditional furniture products, recognizing the high added value and importance of this sector to the national economy. As part of this strategy, Kemenperin participated in the IndexPlus Delhi 2024 exhibition in India, securing a business commitment worth IDR 17 billion. The strategy focuses on five key areas: ensuring the availability of raw materials, enhancing human resource skills, strengthening market research and expansion, improving productivity, capacity, and product quality, and fostering a conducive business climate. Additionally, the government is supporting the furniture industry with tax incentives and simplified export-import procedures.
In the first half of 2024, the furniture industry saw a GDP growth of 0.50%, a positive sign after two years of decline. The industry contributed 1.1% to the non-oil and gas GDP, with exports reaching USD 1.02 billion. With the global furniture market projected to grow by 5% in 2024, Indonesian furniture has significant opportunities, particularly in India, where the market is valued at USD 41 billion, driven by urbanization, the hospitality sector, and online shopping trends. This presents a substantial opportunity for Indonesian furniture to penetrate global markets, leveraging current trends in sustainable, functional, and customizable designs.
