The Indonesian Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy reported a 4.46% increase in the country's creative economy exports, reaching USD 12.36 billion in the first half of 2024 compared to the same period in 2023. This growth was driven primarily by the fashion, crafts, and culinary sectors, with key export destinations including the United States, Switzerland, Japan, Hong Kong, and India. Nia Niscaya, a main expert from the ministry, noted that this achievement represents 55.56% of the 2024 target and 44.89% of the first-semester goal.
The ministry aims to reach a total export value of USD 27.53 billion by the end of the year. Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy Sandiaga Uno expressed confidence in surpassing 2023's figures, which recorded a value of IDR 1,415 trillion for the creative economy and tourism sectors. He also emphasized the importance of diversifying export markets beyond traditional partners like the United States, Japan, and Hong Kong, suggesting that Indonesian creative economy exports should expand into Europe, the Middle East, and Latin America.
