Minister of Industry Agus Gumiwang Kartasasmita announced that the industrial sector is prepared to implement Government Regulation (PP) No. 28 of 2024, which enforces Law No. 17 of 2023 on Health (PP Kesehatan). Speaking from Ibu Kota Nusantara (IKN) in East Kalimantan, Agus confirmed that discussions with domestic industry stakeholders have taken place regarding the new regulation, which was signed by President Jokowi on July 26, 2024. He noted that the industry has provided input and is ready to follow the necessary steps to comply with the regulation, particularly concerning the implementation of excise taxes on sugary drinks and processed foods. A phased approach and transitional period will be provided to allow the industry to adjust accordingly.
The Government's issuance of PP No. 28 of 2024 serves as the executing regulation for Law No. 17 of 2023 on Health. Minister of Health Budi Gunadi Sadikin stated that this regulation is a key part of the health transformation initiative aimed at creating a robust, self-reliant, and inclusive healthcare architecture in Indonesia. The regulation replaces 26 previous government regulations and five presidential regulations, including PP No. 46 of 2014 on Health Information Systems and PP No. 88 of 2019 on Occupational Health. The technical provisions covered in 1,072 articles address various aspects of healthcare delivery, including the management of medical and health personnel, healthcare facilities, and the technicalities of health supplies and pharmaceutical resilience.
