The Food Security, Agriculture, and Fisheries Office of Temanggung Regency, Central Java, is pioneering organic coffee cultivation in collaboration with private sectors to meet the growing demand from international markets. Head of the Office, Joko Budi Nuryanto, revealed on Tuesday in Temanggung that there has been significant interest in organic coffee from foreign buyers. This year, the region aims to expand its organic coffee cultivation to 200 hectares. Currently, certified organic coffee farmers in Kaloran and Prangkokan, Bejen District, have cultivated only a few dozen hectares, yielding around six to seven quintals regularly each season. While Australia has been a primary buyer, recent interest has also emerged from Korea and Japan, further expanding the market reach. Nuryanto noted that although the exact price of organic coffee is unclear, it is generally higher than non-organic varieties, which are currently priced at around IDR 58,000-60,000 per kilogram in Temanggung. This initiative not only boosts the local economy but also strengthens Temanggung’s position in the global organic coffee market.
