The Sleman Regency Government in Yogyakarta is exploring opportunities for export and other sector collaborations with Seychelles, an East African nation. This initiative follows discussions with Seychelles' Minister of Industry, Entrepreneurship, and Investment, Devika Vidot, during her visit to Sleman on Saturday, August 10. The meeting, held at the Parasamya Pavilion in Sleman, was attended by Sleman Regent Kustini Sri Purnomo and local business owners who showcased their products to the East African minister. Kustini expressed hope that this initial interaction would pave the way for a fruitful partnership between Sleman and Seychelles, extending beyond economic cooperation to other sectors as well. She also encouraged local entrepreneurs to leverage technology to expand their market reach and boost the local economy.
Minister Devika Vidot expressed gratitude to the Sleman Government for the opportunity to learn more about Sleman's crafts, which impressed her with their exceptional quality. Her visit to Sleman was part of an official trip with Seychelles' Ambassador to ASEAN, Nico Barito, to explore ASEAN's product potentials. Devika noted that while Seychelles excels in tourism, it has limited artisan resources and could benefit from Sleman's high-quality crafts to support its tourism sector. She emphasized the potential for collaboration but acknowledged the challenge of shipping costs, hoping for a future solution to facilitate smoother trade. Devika remains open to further discussions with the Sleman Government to formalize a cooperative agreement.
