The Indonesian Motorcycle Industry Association (AISI) has reported a significant surge in motorcycle sales across the country for July 2024, marking the highest monthly sales figure this year. According to AISI’s official data released on 10 August 2024, motorcycle sales in Indonesia reached 598,844 units in July, an increase of 87,746 units compared to the previous month. This achievement also represents the highest sales since March 2023, indicating a strong recovery in the two-wheeler market during the second half of the year. In addition to robust domestic sales, exports of motorcycles also reached an impressive milestone in July 2024, with 51,012 units shipped overseas—the highest monthly export volume this year. Previously, motorcycle exports had not exceeded 50,000 units in 2024.
For the year to date, domestic motorcycle sales have totaled 3,769,838 units. With AISI setting a target of 6.2 million units for the year, approximately 1.5 million more units need to be sold to achieve this goal—a target that seems well within reach given the current upward trend. Meanwhile, total motorcycle exports for 2024 have reached 291,330 units, requiring another 297,000 units to match last year's export figures. The 2024 sales figures continue to be dominated by automatic (scooter) motorcycles, which accounted for 90.26% of domestic sales. In contrast, underbone motorcycles (motor bebek) made up 5.22%, and sport motorcycles contributed 4.52%. On the export front, automatic motorcycles led with 46.49% of the sales, followed closely by underbone motorcycles at 26.86%, and sport motorcycles at 26.65%. This strong performance in both domestic and export markets underscores the resilience and growing demand within Indonesia's motorcycle industry.
