Minister of Industry Agus Gumiwang Kartasasmita highlighted the significant role of the food and beverage (F&B) industry in supporting Indonesia's economic growth. In Q1 2024, the F&B sector contributed 39.91% to the non-oil and gas industry GDP and 6.97% to the national GDP, growing by 5.87% year-on-year. From January to May 2024, F&B exports reached USD 14.73 billion (IDR 237.15 trillion), while imports were USD 7.27 billion, resulting in a trade surplus of USD 7.46 billion. Investment in the F&B sector has also increased, with realized investments reaching IDR 26.08 trillion in Q1 2024. Indonesia, endowed with abundant biodiversity, has leveraged its resources such as coffee, tea, fruits, and cocoa to enhance export-oriented value-added processing. Indonesia ranks as the fourth-largest global producer of processed cocoa and seventh in cocoa bean production. In 2023, cocoa exports generated over USD 1 billion in foreign exchange, with 78% of production exported to 96 countries, including the US, India, China, Estonia, and Malaysia.
