Southeast Sulawesi's Economy Grows 5.54 Percent in the Last Year

The Central Statistics Agency (BPS) of Southeast Sulawesi (Sultra) reported that the region's economy grew by 5.54% in the second quarter of 2024 compared to the same period in 2023 (y-on-y). Acting Head of BPS Sultra, Surianti Toar, highlighted that the Manufacturing Industry saw the highest growth in production, at 19.88%, while the Export of Goods and Services component led in expenditure growth, at 32.20%. The region's economic growth in the second quarter of 2024 compared to the first quarter of 2024 was 2.94% (q-to-q), with the Government Administration, Defense, and Mandatory Social Security sector experiencing the highest production growth at 15.95%. On the expenditure side, the Government Consumption Expenditure component had the highest growth, increasing by 25.48%. The economy of Southeast Sulawesi, based on the Gross Regional Domestic Product (PDRB) at current prices, reached IDR 46.22 trillion in the second quarter of 2024, and at constant 2010 prices, it was IDR 27.77 trillion.


Additionally, the economy of Southeast Sulawesi for the first semester of 2024 compared to the first semester of 2023 grew by 5.66% (c-to-c). The Manufacturing Industry sector recorded the highest production growth at 20.82%, while the Export of Goods and Services component saw the highest growth in expenditure at 22.27%. The Agriculture, Forestry, and Fisheries sectors contributed the most to the PDRB of Southeast Sulawesi, accounting for 24.15%. The Household Consumption Expenditure component contributed the most on the expenditure side, making up 47.97% of the total. Surianti Toar emphasized that these figures reflect the robust economic activity in the region, driven by significant contributions from both the production and expenditure sectors, highlighting the dynamic and growing nature of Southeast Sulawesi's economy.
