The Commission II of the Kepri Provincial Legislative Council (DPRD) held a strategic discussion with the Malaysian Consulate at the Hang Jebat Hall of the Malaysian Consulate during their working visit to Pekanbaru, Riau Province, on Tuesday (6/8/2024). Wahyu Wahyudin, Chairman of Commission II of DPRD Kepri, emphasized the importance of strengthening cooperation in the fields of economy and tourism. He highlighted plans for student exchange programs between Kepri and Malaysia, aiming to enhance internship opportunities in the healthcare sector. Additionally, he discussed the potential for adding direct flights from the Riau Archipelago to Kuala Lumpur, noting the significant appeal of religious and marine tourism in Kepri as a draw for tourists from Kuala Lumpur. Muhammed Hoesnie Shahiran, a member of the Malaysian Consulate, expressed agreement on exploring various cooperation opportunities, particularly in tourism and economic sectors, as well as student exchanges in tourism and healthcare. He also mentioned that the discussions could lead to the prompt realization of several initiatives, including improving connectivity between the Riau Archipelago and Malaysia and facilitating student internships in Malaysia.
