British Company Volex Invests USD 40 Million in Electronics Manufacturing in Batam

The Batam Authority (BP Batam) has announced a significant investment from the British company Volex in the electronics sector, including semiconductor and cable manufacturing, in the region. The investment totals USD 40 million, approximately IDR 647 billion. Ariastuty Sirait, Head of the Public Relations, Promotion, and Protocol Bureau at BP Batam, highlighted this commitment as evidence of Batam's dedication to supporting investment. BP Batam is focused on providing fast, precise, and efficient bureaucratic services to investors, aiming to contribute to regional economic growth. Volex expressed gratitude for the support received from BP Batam, covering everything from licensing to land acquisition.

Tan Chiang Peng, General Manager of PT Volex Asia Pacific, shared that the company plans to focus on supplying charging cables for electric vehicles in Indonesia and collaborate with the National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN) to produce charging cables for motorcycles. Currently, Volex employs around 3,000 people and plans to recruit more local workers, reflecting the company's expansion from its initial setup 32 years ago with 250 employees to a much larger facility. Volex is also committed to reducing imports to meet domestic component standards and enhancing workforce technology skills and automation. The company manufactures a range of electronic products, including cables for electric motorcycles, household wiring, and high-temperature cables. Volex serves a global market, exporting to Asia, Europe, and the United States, and aims to continue its growth and contribution to the local economy.
