Indonesian Fisheries Export Products Reach 118 Countries

The Indonesian Ministry of Marine Affairs and Fisheries (KKP), through the Agency for Quality Control and Safety of Fishery Products (BPPMHKP), has expanded the reach of Indonesian fisheries products to 118 countries in the first half of 2024, up from 102 countries in the same period in 2023. This growth reflects the increasing acceptance of Indonesian fishery products in global markets. Ishartini, Head of BPPMHKP, highlighted that the exports include key markets such as the United States, South Korea, Norway, Japan, China, and several European countries including Italy, Belgium, France, Spain, the Netherlands, and the United Kingdom. This expansion is bolstered by international recognition of BPPMHKP as a competent authority for ensuring the quality of fishery products.

As of 25 July 2024, 2,201 fish processing units (UPIs) are registered as exporters to various countries, including 176 UPIs to the European Union and Norway, 629 UPIs to South Korea, 58 UPIs to Saudi Arabia, 316 UPIs to Canada, 448 UPIs to China, 559 UPIs to Vietnam, and 15 UPIs to Eastern Europe. Recent registrations include 50 new UPIs to China, 16 to South Korea, and 4 to Canada. The BPPMHKP's role as a quality assurance body has been officially communicated to the World Trade Organization (WTO), ensuring that changes in institutional roles do not impact the quality of Indonesian fishery products. The Ministry continues to support small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), exemplified by assisting the SME Raja Patin to export fish crackers to Malaysia. Minister of Marine Affairs and Fisheries, Sakti Wahyu Trenggono, emphasized the importance of maintaining product quality from production to the consumer, to protect marine biodiversity and ensure products are safe and microplastic-free.
