Agriculture and Tourism Sectors Boost Green Economy in NTB

The agricultural and tourism sectors in West Nusa Tenggara (NTB) hold significant potential for integration into the region's green economy development. NTB, with its stunning natural beauty, offers a unique advantage for sustainable growth. In this context, Bank Indonesia (BI) NTB is playing an active role in promoting green economy initiatives as a solution to achieve sustainable economic growth. Indonesia, including NTB, has committed to reaching net zero emissions by 2060 in line with the Paris Agreement. This commitment drives BI at the regional level to actively promote the green economy. "We at BI are continually striving to promote the green economy. We see great potential in NTB, especially in the tourism and agriculture sectors, which can be integrated with the green economy concept," said Deputy Representative of BI NTB, Winda Putri Listya, on Tuesday (30/7).

NTB's economy is still heavily dependent on the mining sector, posing a challenge due to the vulnerability of relying on a single sector. Diversifying the economy by incorporating eco-friendly tourism and agriculture could provide promising alternatives for NTB's economic growth, reducing its dependence on mining. "We, at Bank Indonesia, along with the local government, have identified several investment projects with significant potential to drive the green economy," Listya explained. The green economy includes renewable energy sources such as solar and wind power, sustainable agriculture with organic fertilizers and carbon-absorbing sweet farming, and eco-friendly tourism focused on sustainable and minimally impactful destinations. Additionally, seaweed, which has shown excellent carbon dioxide absorption capabilities, is a significant product of NTB. BI NTB plays a crucial role in promoting the green economy in NTB through various initiatives and collaborations with local governments, aiming to build a sustainable and eco-friendly economy. With NTB's natural potential, effectively managed, it can become a key strength in achieving these goals. "We can develop sustainable seaweed cultivation that simultaneously contributes to reducing carbon emissions," she concluded.
