Vice President Encourages Sharia Economy Contribution to Green Economic Development

Sharia economics has been increasingly practiced in business and economic activities, contributing significantly to inclusive and sustainable economic transformation. This trend aligns with the National Long-Term Development Plan (RPJPN), which focuses on green economic development to support the transition to low-carbon energy. Vice President K.H. Ma’ruf Amin emphasized this during the Nusantara Sharia Economic Forum (NUSHAF) 2024, noting that Sharia financing schemes can be ideal for funding sustainable energy transition programs. The Sharia Economic Master Plan 2025-2029 will reinforce the role of green economics in reducing carbon emissions. The Vice President urged forum participants to explore potential Sharia funding sources and mechanisms for sustainable energy programs. NTCORP Commissioner Nurdin Tampubolon highlighted the forum's goal of supporting Indonesia's sustainable development strategies by discussing evolving Sharia finance principles and their role in the energy transition to a low-carbon economy.

The forum, organized by Nusantara TV, also featured the Nusantara Sustainability for Environment/Nature Forum earlier this year. Stakeholders, including Laksmi Dhewanti, Director General of Climate Change at the Ministry of Environment and Forestry; Mahbub Ma’afi, Chairman of the PBNU Bahtsul Masail Institute; and Irwan Abdalloh, Head of the Sharia Capital Market Division at the Indonesia Stock Exchange, participated in discussion sessions. They explored balancing Sharia finance with sustainability. The Vice President was accompanied by several key officials, including Ahmad Erani Yustika, Head of the Vice Presidential Secretariat, and special staff members, to ensure concrete steps towards financing energy businesses while adhering to Sharia principles. The forum underscored the importance of integrating Sharia finance into sustainable energy projects, highlighting the potential for significant contributions to Indonesia's sustainable development goals.
