Deputy Chairman of the MPR Encourages Proper Utilization of Halal Tourism Sector Opportunities

Deputy Chairman of the People's Consultative Assembly (MPR) Lestari Moerdijat has urged that opportunities in the halal tourism sector be maximized effectively. This must be achieved through meticulous planning to boost tourist arrivals to Indonesia. "The opportunities within the tourism sector, including halal tourism, which has significant demand, must be utilized through proper planning and actions," said Lestari Moerdijat in a statement on Monday (July 29, 2024).According to the Global Muslim Travel Index 2023, an increase of 2.3 million Muslim tourists is expected by 2030. The Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy targets 17 million international tourist arrivals this year, compared to 11.68 million in 2023. "This ambitious target compared to last year's achievements requires productive measures to realize it," she explained.Halal tourism, which is gaining attention from international travelers, represents a significant opportunity. Indonesia's status as one of the countries with the largest Muslim population offers a unique appeal to halal tourism enthusiasts. Lestari Moerdijat also encouraged central and regional stakeholders to support sustainable tourism efforts that address market trends, such as halal tourism. "Introducing local culture, arts, culinary specialties, and unique crafts consistently will help tourism become a growth engine for regional economies in Indonesia," she concluded.
