Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy Sandiaga Salahuddin Uno is urging tourism village managers in Malang to create attractive travel packages and integrate them digitally with online travel agents (OTAs) partnered with the Ministry. Speaking at the "Beli Kreatif Desa Wisata (Beti Dewi) 2024" event at Kampong Heritage Kajoetangan, Malang, Sandiaga emphasized that such initiatives are intended to boost domestic tourism, aligning with President Jokowi’s "Proud to Travel in Indonesia" campaign, which targets 1.5 billion domestic tourist movements. Jawa Timur is a major market for domestic tourists, contributing 204.7 million travel movements in 2023, about 25% of the national total. Sandiaga highlighted the need for better management of tourism villages and creative products to turn visitors into buyers. Currently, 379 out of 6,016 tourism villages and 772 tourism products are onboarded with OTAs. Director of Marketing at Kemenparekraf, Dwi Marhen Yono, noted that the onboarding of these products is crucial for increasing revenue for tourism operators and enhancing the local economy. Malang is also working to become a global creative city by 2025 through its Malang Creative Center (MCC), aimed at managing and nurturing the local creative ecosystem.
