PLN Indonesia Power (PLN IP) is accelerating the energy transition in Indonesia by utilizing biomass as a primary energy source for Steam Power Plants (PLTU). To support this sustainable energy source, PLN IP is constructing a Solid Fuel Jumputan Plant (BBJP Plant) in Medan through its unit, the Pangkalan Susu Generation Business Unit (UBP). Edwin Nugraha Putra, CEO of PLN Indonesia Power, stated that the company is continuously innovating to accelerate the energy transition, including the use of biomass from waste for PLTU's primary energy through cofiring. This method helps reduce carbon emissions from the electricity sector, particularly from PLTUs. The pilot project BBJP Plant is located at the Terjun Landfill in Medan Marelan District, Medan, and is a collaborative effort with the Medan City Government. The facility produces 16 tons of BBJP per month from Medan's waste, which is then sent to the Pangkalan Susu PLTU as a 3% fuel mix. The calorific value of BBJP is 3400 KCal/Kg.
PLN IP continues to innovate to accelerate the energy transition by applying cofiring biomass derived from waste as the primary energy source for PLTUs. The construction of the pilot project BBJP Plant at the Terjun Landfill in Medan Marelan District, Medan, was carried out in collaboration with the Medan City Government. The BBJP Plant assets have been handed over to the Medan City Government through the Medan Environmental Agency. Edwin stated that the BBJP facility produces 16 tons per month from Medan's waste, which is then delivered to the Pangkalan Susu PLTU as a primary energy mix of 3%. The calorific value of the produced BBJP is 3400 KCal/Kg. Edwin expressed gratitude for the collaboration and synergy that made the pilot project possible.
