Udi Margo Utomo, Chairperson of the Indonesian Futures Trading Association (Aspebtindo), emphasized the urgent need for professional human resources in the commodity futures trading (PBK) sector in Indonesia. Speaking at the Training Program for Enhancing the Profession of Futures Brokers Representatives (P4WPB) in Jakarta, he highlighted that Indonesia ideally requires around 27,000 certified futures brokers representatives (WPB), but currently, only about 2,000 WPBs have certification from the Commodity Futures Trading Supervisory Agency (Bappebti). Udi believes that the PBK industry has significant growth potential, which necessitates competent WPBs. To address this, Aspebtindo has established training and educational institutions and professional certification bodies to standardize the quality of human resources in the PBK ecosystem.
In the same event, Fajar Wibhiyadi, CEO of the Indonesia Commodity & Derivatives Exchange (ICDX), noted that P4WPB is part of ICDX's role as a Self Regulatory Organization (SRO) in the PBK industry, focusing on preparing human resources. He expressed optimism that having standardized competency in human resources would drive industry growth. P4WPB sessions have been conducted three times in 2024 (May, June, and July), each with 60 participants, and the fourth session is scheduled for September 2024. The training, conducted by ICDX Academy in collaboration with Aspebtindo and Bappebti, aligns with Bappebti Regulation Number 9 of 2020 on Licensing of Futures Brokers Representatives. It is a continuous, systematic program to enhance knowledge and skills in the PBK sector. The training covers general PBK industry policies, trading mechanisms, risk and capital management, and various technical aspects of the PBK industry.
