Indonesia Achieves Surplus in Poultry and Egg Exports

Minister of Agriculture Andi Amran Sulaiman announced that Indonesia has achieved self-sufficiency in poultry and egg production, now exporting its surplus to several countries. Speaking in Jakarta on Friday, Amran highlighted that Indonesia's agricultural sector is thriving, with exports of poultry and eggs reaching nations such as Japan, Singapore, and Qatar. Amran emphasized that Indonesia aims to become a global food supplier by 2033, particularly focusing on increasing food production amid challenges like climate change. He noted that Indonesia's poultry and egg exports have seen significant growth over the past three years, with export values rising from USD 2.5 million in 2021 to USD 5.1 million in 2023. As of May 2024, exports have already reached USD 3.1 million, reflecting a 52% increase in 2022 and a 34% increase in 2023.
The major exporting regions include DKI Jakarta, West Java, East Java, Central Java, East Nusa Tenggara, and the Riau Islands. Additionally, Amran outlined plans to expand rice production through the optimization of swamp land and integrated planting systems in lowland rice fields, aiming to increase planting frequency and improve agricultural efficiency. This progress underscores Indonesia's commitment to enhancing its agricultural sector and supporting its vision of becoming a key player in global food supply chains.
