The Ministry of Industry (Kemenperin) is encouraging small and medium enterprises (SMEs) in the food sector to adhere to quality and safety standards, enhancing their competitiveness and expanding export markets. Reni Yanita, Director General of Small, Medium, and Miscellaneous Industries (IKMA) at Kemenperin, highlighted the importance of food safety in production processes for both domestic and international markets. To succeed, food SMEs must comply with Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) and Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points (HACCP) standards. These standards ensure quality from raw material selection to production hygiene, monitoring, and strict quality control, including worker training on food safety.
Kemenperin has consistently provided certification facilities for GMP and HACCP to food SMEs. From 2011 to 2023, 153 food SMEs received these certifications, including 61 GMP and 92 HACCP certifications. An example is Havel Tea, produced by PT Havelindo Vita Lestari, which integrates Indonesian herbal ingredients like flowers, fruits, and spices. Havel Tea has successfully penetrated international markets in the Philippines, Malaysia, Singapore, and Hong Kong. These initiatives by Kemenperin aim to strengthen the position of Indonesian food products globally by ensuring they meet stringent quality and safety standards, thereby fostering greater export potential.
