Food and Beverage Sector in Malinau Set for Expansion with New Investment Facilitation Schemes

The regional investment scheme is designed to boost local economic growth and support the development of local businesses. Strategic regional policies include facilitating investment through various incentives, such as streamlined licensing and business location assistance.  Syahran, Dean of the Faculty of Economics at Universitas Borneo Tarakan, noted that regional investment schemes can be structured to promote the growth of local enterprises. For example, small businesses could be involved in providing supplies, such as food and beverages, to companies, which helps integrate them into the supply chain. According to data from BPS Malinau, the accommodation and food services sector accounted for 6.92% of the local economy in 2023. This sector is expected to continue growing if effectively regulated through regional legal products.

Currently, the Malinau District Government, through the Investment and One-Stop Integrated Services Office, is drafting a regional regulation (Raperda) to ease investment processes. This draft regulation includes various facilitation schemes for companies investing in the region, including rules for involving micro and small enterprises in potential business lines developed by investors. Syahran, who is also part of the Raperda Investment drafting team, emphasized that effective regulation would positively impact the local economy by integrating local products and businesses into the investment process. Investment incentives include administrative relief and tax breaks to attract companies to invest in the area.
