"Making Indonesia 4.0," launched by President Joko Widodo in 2018, is a strategic roadmap for implementing Industry 4.0 in Indonesia. Among the ten priority programs, empowering MSMEs is crucial, aiming to enhance the competitiveness and productivity of small and medium industries (IKM/UMKM) through digital technology and automation. Reni Yanita, Director General of Small, Medium, and Various Industries (IKMA), emphasized that digital transformation in Industry 4.0 is not only for large companies but also for the IKM sector. Technologies such as the Internet of Things (IoT), artificial intelligence (AI), and big data analytics can help IKMs improve operational efficiency, product quality, and customer service, Reni stated on Saturday (July 20). To support the rapid implementation of Industry 4.0 in Indonesia, the Ministry of Industry launched the Indonesia Industry 4.0 Readiness Index (INDI 4.0) to assess companies' readiness in adopting Industry 4.0 technologies. Through INDI 4.0, companies, including IKMs, can evaluate their digital transformation progress and identify areas needing improvement, she explained.
To raise awareness and prepare IKMs for Industry 4.0, the Directorate General of IKMA held a Workshop on INDI 4.0 Adoption for IKMs in Magelang, Central Java, on July 18, 2024. The event was attended by 50 IKM participants from Magelang City and Regency and 10 Industry Development Officials from various regions in West Nusa Tenggara Province, as part of the "Proud of Indonesian Products NTB 2024" program. Reni added that the Directorate General of IKMA also facilitates the implementation of Industry 4.0 technologies according to IKM business needs. For example, PT SkinSol Kosmetik from Bandung, West Java, received an Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) system for various production and management lines. This ERP system was also provided to IKMs in Bekasi, West Java; Tegal, Central Java; Sleman, Yogyakarta; and Sidoarjo, East Java. The implementation of these technologies requires measurement in terms of increased technology readiness index and success in boosting business productivity. Therefore, the Directorate General of IKMA initiated the adoption of INDI 4.0 to raise awareness and self-assessment of Industry 4.0, benefiting IKMs, especially those advancing their technology and marketing.
