Kediri Regency Government to Export Pineapples via Dhoho Airport, Says Governance and Welfare Assistant

The Kediri Regency government is aiming to achieve two objectives simultaneously: preparing for Umrah flights through Dhoho Kediri Airport and exploring the possibility of exporting pineapples. This opportunity was highlighted by Sukadi, Assistant for Governance and Welfare. He stated that a Jakarta travel agency planning to operate Umrah flights with two airlines is also exploring pineapple exports. They are currently assessing the export potential through Umrah cargo or even dedicated cargo. Sukadi explained, "We are still assessing the potential of various pineapple commodities. There are several types of pineapples, and we are identifying which ones are available in Kediri Regency and which types are preferred by the people of Saudi Arabia." He noted that by the end of September, Kediri's agricultural commodities, including pineapples and chilies, will be showcased in Saudi Arabia. This exhibition will feature products from Kediri and surrounding areas, such as Tulungagung.

If there is significant demand for pineapples from Saudi Arabia and sufficient stock in Kediri, exports will commence, potentially alongside Umrah cargo. If the potential grows, Sukadi mentioned the possibility of establishing dedicated cargo flights to Saudi Arabia. However, he cautioned that this is a long-term projection and cannot be realized immediately with the initial Umrah flights. "We are currently assessing the potential on the ground. From this assessment, we will identify the requirements for export. This process will evolve over time, starting now," he explained. It was previously reported that two Umrah travel agencies will initiate flights at Dhoho Airport. The first agency, from Jember, has scheduled flights with Citilink, starting in early October. The flights are scheduled for October 6, November 3, and December 1, with additional dates on January 2, 2025, and February 2, 2025. Recently, a Jakarta-based agency announced plans to use two airlines, Citilink and Lion Group, with flights beginning in September.
