Customs authorities in Yogyakarta have successfully overseen the export of cigars by PT Taru Martani 1918, a company owned by the Yogyakarta Provincial Government, on 24 June 2024. This operation resulted in an export transaction valued at IDR 170 million. Riri Riani, Head of the Counseling and Information Services Division of Yogyakarta Customs, reported that the shipment included 1,600 cigars to Phuket, Thailand, and 4,050 packs of cigars to Hyogo, Japan. "The shipment to Phuket was facilitated through Yogyakarta International Airport, while the cigars sent to Japan were dispatched via Tanjung Emas Port in Semarang," Riri stated in an official announcement on 15 July.
According to the Minister of Finance Regulation (PMK) No. 59/PMK.04/2017, which states that exported excise goods are not subject to excise duties, exported excise goods (BKC) can utilize the duty-free facility. The removal and transportation of BKC intended for export from the factory or storage to the customs area at the export port must use excise documentation, specifically the CK-5 excise notification document. "Exporting cigars without excise stamps requires a complete CK-5 document as a protective transportation document for tobacco products moving from the warehouse to the export loading port," Riri explained. Yogyakarta Customs has played a crucial role in supervising the cigar export process by assisting with administrative compliance and sealing each box intended for export to ensure that the BKC is genuinely for export purposes. The successful export of Yogyakarta's cigars reflects the province's growing presence in international markets, enhancing its reputation in the global tobacco industry.
