The Ministry of Marine Affairs and Fisheries (KKP) reported that Indonesia's fishery products exports reached USD 2.30 billion in May 2024. "Fishery products exports up to May 2024 amounted to USD 2.30 billion, marking an increase of 2.2% compared to the same period last year," stated Budi Sulistiyo, Director General of Strengthening the Competitiveness of Marine and Fishery Products (PDSPKP) KKP, in Jakarta on Wednesday. Budi highlighted that as a major global supplier, Indonesia accounted for 3.18% of the world's total fishery imports in 2023. This trade generated an export value of USD 5.63 billion, with main commodities being shrimp (34.56%), skipjack-tuna-mackerel (15.38%), squid-cuttlefish-octopus (11.81%), and seaweed (9.62%). The primary export destinations for Indonesian fishery products are the United States (33.87%), followed by China (20.23%), Japan (12.27%), ASEAN (11.82%), the European Union (5.96%), and the Middle East (2.61%).
To boost the brand of Indonesian fishery products, the KKP is hosting the Indo Fisheries 2024 Expo & Forum, an international-scale exhibition showcasing leading fishery products, innovations, and technologies. The event will take place from July 17-19, 2024, in Jakarta, featuring participants from nine countries: Indonesia, China, Taiwan, Singapore, the Netherlands, South Korea, Malaysia, Vietnam, and India. Echoing this, Erwin Dwiyana, Director of Marketing at Ditjen PDSPKP KKP, has prepared various supporting activities during the exhibition, including talk shows on fishery management, export market challenges and opportunities, human resources in Indonesia's fishery sector, and business opportunities. These sessions will feature practitioners, associations, entrepreneurs, academics, government officials, and industry professionals. Additionally, there will be meetings between business players, prospective trade partners, government representatives, associations, and seafood industry professionals. The KKP will also use Indo Fisheries 2024, coinciding with the Indo Livestock and Indo Agrotech exhibitions, to promote the "Gemarikan" campaign, emphasizing the importance of protein intake for the public. Erwin hopes that through this exhibition, professionals in the seafood industry and potential buyers or trade partners can explore trade and investment partnerships with Indonesian associations and exporters. The public can also closely observe the developments in fishery product innovations and technologies, particularly nutritious food supplements like fish protein hydrolysate (HPI) which will be fortified into traditional snacks at no cost.
