Indonesia Targets South American Market for Trade and Investment Opportunities

The Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Kadin) is targeting South America as a trade and investment opportunity. Kadin Chairman Arsjad Rasjid emphasized the push towards non-traditional markets, expanding beyond Asia to South America, especially with major international events like the G20 being held in Brazil. Kadin aims to assist the government in diversifying export markets, with this year's focus being on South Africa. Shinta Kamdani highlighted the significant potential in the South American market, despite geographical challenges, noting the existing Indonesia-Chile Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (IC-CEPA) as a key facilitator.

Additionally, Deputy Trade Minister Jerry Sambuaga, during a meeting with Chile's Deputy Trade Minister Claudia Sanhueza in Paris, expressed the potential for Indonesian products to expand in Latin America. Chile shares Indonesia's vision for sustainable global economic cooperation, embodied in the IC-CEPA. Indonesia is also interested in forming a Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP) with Chile, which would enhance integrated, rule-based trade systems, economic growth, and diplomatic relations. Chile, as an OECD member, supports Indonesia's OECD membership process. Strengthening economic ties with OECD members, focusing on science, technology, innovation, digital transformation, and sustainable agriculture and energy, is crucial for Indonesia's development. Jerry appreciates Chile's support and anticipates robust collaboration with OECD members to foster better policies and living standards.
