Indonesian Car Exports on the Rise, with Major Markets in the Philippines and Vietnam

The Central Bureau of Statistics (BPS) reported that Indonesia's car export value reached USD 2.78 billion by June 2024, slightly lower than the USD 2.97 billion recorded from January to June 2023. Despite the decline in June 2024, Acting Head of BPS, Amalia Adininggar Widyasanti, revealed that the overall trend of Indonesian car exports has significantly increased compared to previous years. In the January-June 2021 period, car exports were valued at USD 1.67 billion, indicating a substantial rise. "Specifically, the Philippines is the primary destination for Indonesian car exports, accounting for 27.64% of the total exports. This means that about one in four cars exported from Indonesia is sent to the Philippines," stated Amalia during a press conference on Monday, 15 July.

Besides the Philippines, significant car exports also went to Vietnam and Saudi Arabia, representing 16.17% and 15.52% of total car exports, respectively. Additionally, cars were exported to Mexico (10.53%), the United Arab Emirates (5.46%), and the remaining 24.68% to other countries. Overall, the value of car exports from Indonesia shows a positive trend, increasing from USD 3.39 billion in 2021 to USD 5.57 billion in 2022, and further rising to USD 6.12 billion in 2023. By establishing the positive trajectory of car exports, Indonesia continues to strengthen its presence in key markets such as the Philippines and Vietnam, while also expanding its reach to various other regions globally.
