PT Semen Indonesia Tbk (SIG) and PT Perusahaan Listrik Negara (PLN) are intensifying their synergy to accelerate the energy transition towards a green industry through low-carbon business processes and operations. SIG's Director of Operations, Reni Wulandari, stated that this BUMN synergy aligns with each company's sustainability roadmap to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in Indonesia and support the Government's target of zero carbon emissions (Net Zero Emission/NZE) by 2050. This initiative aims to reduce environmental risks from extractive industrial models and accelerate carbon emission reductions. "As an energy user, the relationship between SIG and PLN is more than just a consumer and service provider but also a partner in sustainability. SIG and PLN signed a memorandum of understanding to provide clean energy for SIG's operational needs in September 2023," she added. Reni explained that SIG is a large-scale electricity user, with an annual energy consumption of about 2.9 terawatt hours (TWh), equivalent to IDR 2.9 trillion per year.
Additionally, SIG has potential land, including rooftops, land areas, and ponds, which could be used for solar panel implementation up to 572 MegaWatt peak (MWp). "Collaboration with PLN in developing solar panels is expected to increase the use of renewable energy and support the target of reducing CO2 emission intensity by 23.9% from the 2019 baseline, as outlined in SIG's 2030 Sustainability Roadmap," she explained. Meanwhile, PLN President Director Darmawan Prasodjo stated that the Enterprise Customer Gathering is a form of appreciation for the ongoing cooperation with industrial customers. According to him, customer contributions are significant in maintaining stability and driving the country's economic growth. "This event is our way of expressing appreciation for the support of our customers over the years. We hope to further strengthen the relationship between PLN and enterprise customers to promote sustainable economic growth," said Darmawan Prasodjo. Darmawan also mentioned that to support low-carbon energy, PLN is developing a beyond kWh business, providing not only electricity but also internet services, fiber optics, and green services to support a low-carbon industry.
