Reaching IDR 4.59 Trillion, BPS Reports May 2024 Export Value Through Ports in North Kalimantan Up by 100%

The export value of commodities through ports in North Kalimantan doubled by approximately 100.94% in May 2024, as reported by the North Kalimantan Central Statistics Agency (BPS). The total export value reached USD 280.99 million, equivalent to IDR 4.59 trillion (based on the BI middle rate on July 5: IDR 16,340). This represents a significant increase from April 2024, where the total export value was USD 139.84 million or IDR 2.28 trillion. According to BPS North Kalimantan Head Mas’ud Rifai, all commodity groups experienced an increase. Notably, natural gas exports rose from USD 0 to USD 3.34 million (IDR 54.57 billion), and industrial products increased from USD 23.65 million (IDR 386.44 billion) to USD 28.27 million (IDR 461.93 billion). Mining products saw a drastic rise from USD 115.39 million (IDR 1.88 trillion) to USD 248.23 million (IDR 4.05 trillion), while agricultural products grew from USD 0.80 million (IDR 13.07 billion) to USD 1.16 million (IDR 18.95 billion). By category, coal exports dominated at USD 251.56 million (IDR 4.11 trillion), followed by tobacco at USD 24.72 million (IDR 403.92 billion), seafood such as fish at USD 3.04 million (IDR 49.67 billion), and plywood at USD 0.86 million (IDR 14.05 billion).


The primary export destinations for North Kalimantan in May 2024 were China at USD 106.97 million (IDR 1.74 trillion), Malaysia at USD 37.55 million (IDR 613.56 billion), India at USD 35.43 million (IDR 578.92 billion), and the Philippines at USD 26.45 million (IDR 432.19 billion). The value of North Kalimantan's original products exported through both local and external ports was recorded at USD 160.90 million (IDR 2.62 trillion), reflecting a 17.8% increase compared to April 2024. Each commodity group saw growth, with the largest increase in mining products. These exports also included shipments through East Java, DKI Jakarta, and South Sulawesi. On the import side, North Kalimantan's import value in May 2024 reached USD 115.70 million (IDR 1.9 trillion), marking a 218.19% increase compared to April 2024. The trade balance for North Kalimantan in May 2024 recorded a surplus of USD 165.29 million, a 59.74% increase from the April 2024 surplus of USD 103.48 million.
