700 Koi Fish Contest in Blitar City: A Promotional Platform to Penetrate Export Markets

The Koi Fish Contest for the Mayor's Cup in Blitar was a vibrant event featuring 700 koi fish from various regions across Indonesia on Monday, July 8, 2024. The competition showcased 21 different types of koi fish from 60 clubs nationwide, emphasizing the beauty and color of the fish. "There are five categories in this contest: A-B-C-D-E, with judging criteria similar to other competitions, focusing on color, body shape, and size," said Kholid Firdaus, Chairman of the Koi Fish Contest Committee, on Monday. "Participants are members of the Indonesian Koi Lovers Association, so they are already familiar with the judging criteria," he added.

The contest was well-received by breeders, who viewed it as a platform to promote their koi fish. They hope this event will increase the recognition of Indonesian koi fish, not only locally but also in the international export market. "This is a great promotional platform to showcase the quality of our bred koi fish. By participating, we can obtain certificates that demonstrate the competitive and high market value of our koi," said Rully Kencana, one of the participants. The koi fish contest is an annual event aimed at fostering camaraderie among koi enthusiasts in Indonesia. Additionally, it aims to highlight Blitar City as one of Indonesia's largest koi centers. The event is expected to boost the local koi breeders' economy. Many breeders are attracted to the contest not only for the cash prizes worth millions of IDR but also for the certificates that can enhance the market value of their bred koi fish.
