Deputy Trade Minister Jerry Sambuaga highlighted the high quality of Indonesian rattan products, which are highly sought after by international importers, including Japan. During his visit to Kimura Rattan Co., Ltd. in Osaka, Japan, on 4 July 2024, Jerry emphasized that Indonesian rattan has been a preferred material in Japan for decades. "We greatly appreciate Kimura Rattan's commitment to using Indonesian rattan as raw material for the past 49 years. This is proof that Indonesian rattan is of excellent quality and in demand worldwide," Jerry stated in Jakarta on 5 July. Jerry noted that Kimura Rattan's importation of rattan significantly contributes to strengthening trade relations between Indonesia and Japan. "This cooperation not only benefits both parties but also helps enhance the trade relationship between our two countries," he added. The total import of rattan by Kimura Rattan has consistently increased annually, with imports valued at USD 2.11 million from October 2020 to September 2021, USD 2.16 million from October 2021 to September 2022, and USD 2.33 million from October 2022 to September 2023.
Furthermore, Jerry mentioned that the Ministry of Trade is committed to continuously supporting and facilitating the export of high-quality rattan products to Japan. This includes assistance from the Indonesia Trade Promotion Center (ITPC) in Osaka, which is ready to help improve product quality, promote products, and address any challenges faced. "We hope that the established cooperation can be further developed. If there are other cooperation opportunities or interests, please do not hesitate to contact ITPC Osaka, which is always ready to assist," Jerry concluded. This initiative underscores Indonesia's dedication to expanding its presence in the global market and fostering strong international trade relationships.
