Indonesia's Ranking Up in Travel and Tourism Development Index 2024 Boosts Tourism and Creative Economy Investment Opportunities

Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy Sandiaga Salahuddin Uno highlighted Indonesia's improved ranking in the 2024 Travel and Tourism Development Index (TTDI), emphasizing its positive impact on tourism and creative economy investments. Speaking at the "Appreciation for the Rise in TTDI 2024 Ranking" event at Balairung Soesilo Soedarman, Sapta Pesona Building, Jakarta on Wednesday (19/6/2024), Sandiaga stated that Indonesia's enhanced global standing would attract investors to invest in the country. "Indonesia has successfully surpassed New Zealand, far exceeding expectations. Investment in this sector is expected to increase, along with tourism employment and its economic impact," Sandiaga said. According to the World Economic Forum (WEF) report released on May 21, 2024, Indonesia is among the top 10 countries with the best TTDI performance since 2019, with a score increase of 4.5%. Indonesia is now ranked 22nd out of 119 countries, 6th in the Asia-Pacific region, and 2nd in ASEAN. This achievement reflects collaborative efforts across all tourism stakeholders.

Deputy Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy, Angela Tanoesoedibjo, added that several assessment indicators need improvement, including health and hygiene, tourism services and infrastructure, ICT readiness, openness to T&T, human resources and labor market, and environmental sustainability. Former Tourism Minister from 2014-2019, Arief Yahya, commended Indonesia for achieving a top 30 position in the TTDI 2024. He stressed the importance of using global standards in global competition. TTDI serves as a tourism certification recognized worldwide. "In competition, we must know our position. Know yourself and know your competitors, then we can win the battle. Ranking 22 is beyond my expectations. My suggestion is to maintain consistency in enhancing and maintaining Indonesia's position and achievements globally," Arief Yahya said. The event was attended by Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy Secretary, Ni Wayan Giri Adnyani, senior officials from the Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy, and Ministry of Cooperatives and SMEs Advisor for Productivity and Competitiveness, Herbert Siagian, along with representatives from Kemenparekraf partners.
