The Indonesian Quarantine Agency, through the North Sumatra quarantine unit (Satpel) in Sibolga, facilitated the inaugural export of Sipirok Coffee to Brunei Darussalam. A total of 7 kilograms of Sipirok coffee was exported from Sibolga Port on Sunday, June 30, 2024. Quarantine officer Prawira stated that exporters visited to explain the coffee export requirements and introduce the PPK Online application to simplify quarantine reporting. "The coffee to be exported is civet coffee from Darul Mursyid Pesantren in Sipirok," said Prawira on Tuesday, July 2, 2024. Sucipto, the exporter, mentioned that the coffee produced by Darul Mursyid Pesantren (PDM) is grown and processed on their private farm. The marketing is also handled independently, reaching various cities. "PDM Coffee aims to improve the welfare of local coffee farmers and promote Indonesian coffee.
PDM has transformed from an educational institution into a community economic empowerment entity," Sucipto explained. He further highlighted that Sipirok coffee from North Sumatra is renowned for its unique taste and characteristics. PDM Coffee has also achieved several accolades, including first place in the Green Bean Competition at the North Sumatra Coffee Festival in 2019 and third place in the Coffee Signature category at the Nusantara Culinary and Coffee Exhibition (Halal Food) in 2019. Head of North Sumatra Quarantine, Prayatno Ginting, stated that the PDM cooperative is an MSME fostered by the quarantine unit's export clinic in Sibolga. "The 7 kilograms of coffee beans being exported are samples to the destination country. Hopefully, this shipment meets the destination country's requirements and can continue with larger volumes," said Prawira.
