The Central Statistics Agency (BPS) reported a significant increase in the trade of tobacco and cigarette products in Bali during April and May 2024 (YoY). Endang Retno Sri Subiyandani, Head of BPS Bali, stated that tobacco and cigarette exports in May 2024 amounted to USD 1.3 million, a 28,040% increase compared to May 2023, when the export value was only USD 4,634. The largest export destination for cigarettes in May 2024 was the Dominican Republic, highlighting the substantial rise in exports. Imports of tobacco and cigarette products were recorded at USD 419,018, a 16.77% increase compared to May 2023 (YoY). In April 2024, the value of cigarette imports to Bali was USD 12,893. Overall, Bali's export performance in May 2024 was USD 58.83 million, a 23.44% increase compared to April 2024's USD 47.67 million. On an annual basis (YoY), Bali's export value in May 2024 was 18.46% higher than in May 2023. Bali's exports were dominated by fish, crustaceans, and mollusks, amounting to USD 13.71 million, with a 23.31% share of total exports. Compared to April 2024, seven out of the top ten export commodities saw increases, with the highest rise in tobacco and cigarettes, optical instruments, photography, cinematography, and medical instruments.
From January to May 2024, Bali's export value reached USD 277.04 million, a 16.97% increase compared to USD 236.85 million in the same period in 2023. The United States was the largest export market, with a 25.65% share of total cumulative export value. The highest increase in cumulative export value was recorded for exports to China, at 186.57%. Conversely, the cumulative value of Bali's imports from abroad from January to May 2024 was USD 69.15 million, a 41.96% increase from USD 48.71 million in the same period in 2023. The United States was the largest source of imports, accounting for 19.44% of the total cumulative import value. Imports from Vietnam showed the highest increase, skyrocketing by 1,457.40%.
