Minister of Trade Zulkifli Hasan facilitated the export of 10 containers of green bean coffee produced by PT Ujang Jaya International, valued at USD 1.48 million, to the United States from Deli Serdang, North Sumatra. He emphasized the government's efforts to strengthen exports to maintain a trade surplus, highlighting that Indonesia has achieved a 49-month consecutive trade balance surplus. The Ministry of Trade is working diligently to open market access for Indonesian products by expediting trade agreements with partner countries, notably the Indonesia-European Union Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (IEU-CEPA). Zulkifli noted that the CEPA with the EU is nearing completion, which would help resolve export issues for products like pepper, coffee, and especially CPO. He expects the agreement to be finalized before October. Over the past five years (2019-2023), Indonesia's coffee export trend has grown by 4.46%. The United States is the top destination for Indonesian coffee exports, valued at USD 215.96 million, representing a 23.24% share of total exports. Zulkifli highlighted the need to improve the quality of Indonesian coffee to compete with countries like Colombia, which benefits from strong government and cooperative support.
Zulkifli also emphasized the importance of maintaining quality in all aspects of coffee production, including packaging and drying processes. He expressed full support for cooperatives and warehouse receipts, noting that collaboration is key to success. From January to April 2024, Indonesia's coffee exports reached USD 283.3 million, a 20% increase from the same period the previous year, which was valued at USD 236.08 million. In 2023, Indonesia's global coffee exports amounted to USD 929.13 million. This upward trend in exports reflects the growing demand for Indonesian coffee and the continuous efforts to enhance its quality and market reach. The Minister’s initiatives aim to further boost Indonesia's presence in the global coffee market and ensure sustainable economic growth through robust export performance.
