Ministry of Industry Supports Lombok SMEs with Coconut Processing and Weaving Machinery

The Indonesian Ministry of Industry (Kemenperin), through the Directorate General of Small, Medium, and Miscellaneous Industries, is actively enhancing the competitiveness of Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs). In 2024, the Ministry was appointed as the Campaign Manager for the National Movement Proud of Indonesian Products (Gernas BBI) in collaboration with the Provincial Government of West Nusa Tenggara (NTB). Gernas BBI is a government initiative aimed at empowering SMEs. As part of its efforts to support Gernas BBI in NTB, the Directorate General of Small, Medium, and Miscellaneous Industries (Ditjen IKMA) has partnered with the Indonesian Female Leaders Association to advocate for women's empowerment. They organized technical assistance programs for SMEs in NTB, focusing predominantly on female participants. The initiative includes the provision of modern machinery for coconut processing and traditional weaving. This equipment is intended to improve the productivity and product quality of local SMEs, particularly those managed by women. By introducing advanced technology, the Ministry aims to boost the efficiency and marketability of these traditional industries.

Minister of Industry Agus Gumiwang Kartasasmita emphasized the importance of such initiatives in fostering regional economic development. "Supporting local industries through technological advancements and capacity-building programs is crucial for enhancing the competitiveness of our SMEs," he stated. The program not only provides technical support but also includes training sessions on business management and marketing strategies. These sessions are designed to help local entrepreneurs expand their market reach and increase their business acumen. In conclusion, the Ministry of Industry’s support for Lombok SMEs, particularly in the coconut processing and weaving sectors, exemplifies its commitment to empowering local businesses and promoting sustainable economic growth in Indonesia. This initiative aligns with the broader goals of the Gernas BBI campaign, fostering pride in Indonesian products and enhancing the livelihoods of local communities.
