The Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs hosted the third edition of the Indonesia Gastrodiplomacy Series (IGS), titled "Diplomatic Tour – Trail of Spices in East Nusa Tenggara," in Labuan Bajo, West Manggarai, East Nusa Tenggara (NTT) from June 27 to 30, 2024. Initiated by the Directorate General of Information and Public Diplomacy, the event was a collaboration with the NTT Provincial Government, West Manggarai Regency Government, Labuan Bajo Flores Authority Board (BPOLBF), InJourney Tourism Development Corporation (ITDC), and Garuda Indonesia. The program aimed to promote regional potential, particularly Indonesia's culinary heritage, and boost trade, tourism, and investment among international stakeholders. This edition of IGS saw participation from 45 diplomats and officials from 23 diplomatic missions, including Australia, Austria, Bahrain, Bangladesh, Brazil, the Philippines, Finland, Cambodia, Kenya, South Korea, Laos, Morocco, Egypt, Pakistan, UAE, Poland, Rwanda, Singapore, Slovakia, Sri Lanka, Spain, and Turkey.
The event began with a Gala Dinner hosted by Acting Governor of NTT, Ayodhia G. L. Kalake, at Puncak Waringin, a popular sunset viewing spot in Labuan Bajo. The Governor welcomed the diplomats and emphasized NTT's openness to economic, social, and cultural cooperation. Director General of IDP Kemlu, Siti Nugraha Mauludiah, appreciated the collaborative efforts to enhance cross-border cooperation for mutual benefit. Participants experienced the region's diverse offerings, including Labuan Bajo as a Super Priority Tourism Destination, traditional NTT cuisine with local spices, the exotic landscapes of Flores, and globally marketable bamboo handicrafts. Highlights included observing Komodo dragons at Komodo National Park on Rinca Island and enjoying Manggarai's unique Arabica coffee. The program provided a comprehensive view of Labuan Bajo’s socio-cultural wealth as an economic potential ready for global markets.
