The furniture and crafts business has previously contributed IDR 1.1 trillion in annual turnover. If this increases, it could create jobs for labor-intensive enterprises. Amid difficult economic conditions and increased exports, Yogyakarta has seen growth of up to 5%. The Indonesian Furniture and Crafts Industry Association (HIMKI) DPD DIY held its 3rd Regional Conference (MUSDA) to elect new leadership for the 2024-2027 period. The theme of this MUSDA was "Synergy in the Digital Era, Transparency, and Sustainability," serving as the organization's foundation to face digital era challenges and enhance its societal contributions. Abdul Sobur, Chairman of HIMKI, stated that the largest export industries are solid wood and rattan-based furniture and crafts. "Solid wood is very strong here, and the people of Yogyakarta are very creative in exploring its potential. Rattan is also prevalent. Despite the current challenges in increasing exports, Yogyakarta has experienced growth of 4% to 5%, which is excellent. It's beneficial to dominate the domestic market first," Sobur said during the MUSDA at Sahid Raya Hotel Yogya on June 29, 2024.
The newly elected HIMKI Chairman for the 2024-2027 period, Ruslam Aji Dwi Putronto, stated that future programs would include recruiting younger members. "MUSDA serves as an evaluation of the programs implemented over the past three years and a transition to the 2024-2027 leadership, with hopes of being more creative, enthusiastic, and synergistic with existing members," Ruslam Aji stated. He also supports prioritizing the advancement of the domestic market alongside exporting finished products. "We should export finished products instead of raw materials, as it benefits our entrepreneurs and craftsmen," he added. Agung Setiawan, Deputy Chairman of the Organization and Inter-Institutional Relations Division, mentioned that this MUSDA was attended by 60 exporters from DIY. "We hope the new HIMKI leadership will increase the quota for novice exporters. Successful programs should be continued, and ongoing ones need improvement," Agung stated.
