Hai Sawit, a media outlet specializing in palm oil news, in collaboration with the Palm Oil Plantation Fund Management Agency (BPDPKS), has organized a Focus Group Discussion (FGD) on the export potential of Indonesian palm oil SME products. "This event, supported by BPDPKS and attended by SMEs and cooperatives from East Belitung Province, was officially opened by East Belitung Regent Bahruddin," said M. Gema Aliza Putra, General Manager of Hai Sawit Indonesia, in a press release from BPDPKS on Wednesday, 26 June 2024. Gema stated that the workshop aims to help participants identify and analyze various export opportunities for Indonesian palm oil SME products, both in domestic and international markets. It also seeks to foster collaboration between the government, businesses, and other stakeholders to support palm oil SME exports. "This FGD is a preliminary step to introduce and develop palm oil-based SMEs to entrepreneurs in East Belitung, capturing new economic opportunities in palm oil product processing," Gema added.
While the public commonly associates palm oil products with cooking oil, CPO, and kernel, Gema pointed out that there are derivative products from palm oil waste processing with significant development potential. These lesser-known products represent the potential for palm oil SMEs to expand their market reach and diversify their offerings. Through the FGD, participants are expected to gain insights into the untapped potential of palm oil derivatives, thereby enhancing their ability to contribute to the region's economic growth by exploring new markets and boosting export activities. The event underscores the importance of government support and private sector involvement in realizing the export potential of palm oil SMEs in Indonesia. By fostering an environment of collaboration and innovation, the FGD aims to propel Indonesian palm oil SMEs onto the global stage, enabling them to leverage their unique products and contribute to the nation's economic development.
