The Ministry of Trade Prepares Policies to Strengthen Downstreaming of Export Products

The Ministry of Trade has introduced policies to support and strengthen the downstreaming of domestic export products. This includes relaxing export regulations for several mining products and simplifying export licensing. Trade Minister Zulkifli Hasan announced these measures at the Synergy Forum in Surabaya, themed "Industrial Downstreaming Strategy to Increase Exports of Value-Added Products." Accompanying him were Acting Secretary-General Suhanto and Director General of Foreign Trade Budi Santoso. Zulhas noted that Indonesia's exports have recorded a surplus for 49 consecutive months. The forum aims to enhance the downstreaming of export products further. The Ministry has been exploring non-traditional export markets in South Asia, Eastern Europe, Central Asia, and the Middle East, while also developing new markets in Africa. The goal is to make Indonesia a developed country by 2045 through global market dominance. Efforts include enacting policies to encourage businesses to export, thereby boosting the national economy, such as Minister of Trade Regulations No. 10 and 11 of 2024, which amend regulations on export prohibitions and arrangements, effective June 1, 2024. The Ministry remains committed to facilitating businesses and easing export activities for national economic growth.

The forum featured speakers such as Andri Gilang Nugraha, Tri Winarno, Ginanjar Mardhikatama, and Miguel Angel Esquivias Padilla, and was attended by 160 business players from various regions in East Java. According to the Central Statistics Agency (BPS), Indonesia's economic growth in the first quarter of 2024 was 5.11%, up 1.38% from the first quarter of 2023. From January to May 2024, Indonesia's trade balance recorded a surplus of USD 13.06 billion, with exports dominated by industrial products (72.52%) and mining products (19.28%), while imports were mainly raw materials (73.16%), capital goods (17.35%), and consumer goods (9.49%).
