Indonesia Increases Exports of Food and Beverage Products to Africa

Indonesian food and beverage (F&B) products showcased impressive performance at the Africas Big 7 (AB7) 2024 exhibition, held from June 11-13, 2024, at the Sandton Convention Centre, Johannesburg, South Africa. The exhibition resulted in potential transactions amounting to USD 3.71 million or approximately IDR 60.93 billion. "Indonesian products once again drew attention with their impressive display at the international AB7 2024 exhibition. The potential transactions secured at the event amounted to IDR 60.93 billion, and this value is expected to increase as communications between Indonesian entrepreneurs and buyers continue," stated Tonny Hendriawan, Head of the Indonesia Trade Promotion Center (ITPC) Johannesburg, in a press release on Saturday, June 22, 2024. The Indonesian pavilion featured the theme "Accelerating the Food and Beverage Retail Business in Africa'' and was strategically located with an area of 108 square meters, providing high exposure. The pavilion was opened by Arief Ilham Ramadhan, First Secretary for Economic Affairs at the Embassy of the Republic of Indonesia in Pretoria.

Tonny noted that AB7 is the largest exhibition in Africa for the F&B and F&B technology sectors. Exhibitors from various countries, including Indonesia, India, Pakistan, Malaysia, the People's Republic of China (PRC), Brazil, and Poland, participated. "The participation of the Indonesian pavilion at AB7 2024 is a result of collaboration between the Directorate General of National Export Development of the Ministry of Trade and ITPC Johannesburg. The pavilion featured 15 Indonesian companies showcasing products like wafers, biscuits, crackers, canned fish, coconut oil, cheese, instant coffee, chocolate, chocolate drinks, ginger candy, and plastic kitchenware," said Murdopo, Deputy Head of ITPC Johannesburg. Murdopo added that Indonesia's participation is expected to boost exports of F&B products in the global market, particularly in Africa. Arief Ilham Ramadhan, First Secretary for Economic Affairs at the Indonesian Embassy in Pretoria, noted the promising growth of the F&B market in South Africa. "The future growth of the F&B market in South Africa looks promising. Business players are encouraged to take advantage of this opportunity and increase Indonesia's non-oil and gas exports to South Africa," added Arief.
