Minister of Trade Zulkifli Hasan emphasized that the importation of raw materials for the textile industry still requires a technical consideration letter (pertek) issued by the relevant ministries. Speaking during a charity event in Jakarta on Wednesday (June 19), Zulkifli clarified that there have been no changes in the procedures for textiles under the Ministry of Industry. He assured that the recent Ministerial Regulation No. 8 of 2024, which revises Regulation No. 36 of 2023, does not directly impact the textile and textile product (TPT) industry's operations. Zulhas, as he is commonly known, affirmed that the new regulation maintains the requirement for a technical consideration letter (pertek) as a prerequisite for importing TPT products, consistent with the previous Regulation No. 36 of 2023. He dismissed concerns about industrial closures attributed to Regulation No. 8 of 2024, emphasizing that its provisions do not alter the existing technical considerations for textiles. Zulkifli stressed that imports of textiles, iron, and steel still necessitate a technical consideration letter (pertek) issued by the relevant ministry.
Zulkifli Hasan's statements came in response to criticisms and concerns raised by members of the Indonesian House of Representatives' Commission VI, highlighting perceived impacts on domestic textile industries following the enactment of Ministerial Regulation No. 8 of 2024. The regulation has sparked debates and fears within the industry, but Zulkifli underscored the government's commitment to safeguarding domestic industries, emphasizing the collaborative effort involving multiple ministries, agencies, and industry associations in formulating trade policies under the leadership of Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto.
