The Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy/Head of the Tourism and Creative Economy Agency (Menparekraf/Kabaparekraf) Sandiaga Salahuddin Uno anticipates that Indonesia's improved ranking in the Travel and Tourism Development Index (TTDI) 2024 will stimulate increased domestic investments, particularly in the tourism and creative economy sectors. At the "Appreciation of the TTDI 2024 Ranking Increase" event in Jakarta on June 19, 2024, Sandiaga highlighted Indonesia's rise to 22nd place out of 119 countries globally, 6th in the Asia-Pacific region, and 2nd in ASEAN. This achievement is expected to attract greater investor interest, boost tourism-related employment, and enhance overall economic impacts nationwide.
Sandiaga emphasized the significance of Indonesia surpassing countries like New Zealand in the TTDI ranking, noting it exceeded initial expectations. He expressed confidence that this accomplishment will translate into increased investments and broader economic benefits for the country. Deputy Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy/Vice Head of the Tourism and Creative Economy Agency (Wamenparekraf/Wakabaparekraf) Angela Tanoesoedibjo added that while Indonesia's progress is commendable, there's a critical need to further enhance key assessment indicators. These include health and hygiene standards, infrastructure for tourist services, ICT readiness, openness to travel and tourism, human resources and labor market development, and environmental sustainability initiatives. Angela highlighted the Clean, Health, Safety, and Environment (CHSE) standardization initiative during the pandemic as pivotal for Indonesia's tourism sector recovery, suggesting ongoing improvements to address current hygiene challenges effectively and sustainably. The event underscored the importance of maintaining global standards and continuity in efforts to uphold and enhance Indonesia's position in global tourism rankings, emphasizing collaboration among stakeholders for sustained progress in the sector
