The Indonesian Ministry of Industry (Kemenperin) is intensifying efforts to strengthen the country's halal industry, aiming to accelerate access to the global halal market. This strategic initiative aligns with Indonesia's national policy based on the sharia economy, as stated by Andi Rizaldi, Head of the Industrial Services Standardization and Policy Agency (BSKJI) at Kemenperin, on Wednesday, June 19, 2024. Rizaldi highlighted that, according to the State of the Global Islamic Economy (SGIE) Report 2023 released by Dinar Standard in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, at the end of last year, Indonesia has successfully ranked third in The Global Islamic Economy Indicator (GIEI), following Malaysia and Saudi Arabia.
"The potential for domestic halal products is significant. Indonesia, with the world's second-largest Muslim population of 236 million, also represents a potential market for halal consumer goods, particularly religious equipment," he stated. Rizaldi emphasized that the textile and textile products (TPT) industry is expected to capture the market for religious equipment products, such as items used for umrah or hajj. Indonesia is one of the countries with the largest number of pilgrims to the Holy Land. "The industry engaged in producing religious equipment for Muslims must be encouraged to meet good product quality standards through SPPT-SNI certification and ensure halal product guarantees to increase consumer confidence," he added.
